The staff had some time today to explore the North Maine woods and explore they did. Lilly Betke-Brunswick and Holly Whitney ran a marathon and they ran it on the Appalachian Trail. They got dropped off at Abol Bridge and ran the 26 miles back to 4th Debsconeag. That did not slow them down, both then joined the staff for a group paddle and Holly was still portaging canoes at 8pm. Abigail Marshall, Isi LLarena, Ellen Kerchner enjoyed hiking in Baxter state park. Other staff paddled on 3rd, 4th and hiked to 5th Debsconeag lake. Bryce Koukopolous took out our 20 foot freighter canoe and rowed it across the lake. No easy feat. We welcome Loryn Kipp our head cook, who has arrived after driving up from Kentucky. It’s own marathon for her to pack up and make the trek. A commitment all of our staff make is to leave home and make T1R11 their home for the summer. Today we are all reminded why we make that decision. Tomorrow the staff head off on two trips. Some to the West Branch of the Penobscot (Never’s Corner) and will paddle home via 1st, 2nd and 3rd Debsconeag lake. Veteran staff Christina Roach and Addie Liddic will lead that trip. The second group is venturing to St Croix river where they will work on their river skills. Greg Shute and Abby Burbank will lead that trip. The weather is scheduled to give us beautiful weather and we hope luxurious looking skies at night. We look forward to our trip as it prepares us for our trips this summer with the campers.
