Camp Chewonki for Girls
The Owls, our second-youngest group at camp, have completed grades 4 or 5 and have the option of spending 10 days, 3 weeks, or the full summer with us. In cabin groups of six to eight campers and two cabin leaders, Owls are typically in their first two years of camp at Chewonki. With a blend of new and returning campers, Owls are experts at enthusiastically welcoming new friends to the community and showing them the ropes.
Owls continue to build on the strong foundations in our core activities as they prepare for their first wilderness trips away from Chewonki Neck. All of our 3-week Owls go on a four-to-six-day wilderness canoe trip, which involves exploring the Maine coast or the ponds and lakes of central and northern Maine as they develop their flatwater paddling skills. Campers enrolled for the full summer experience up to 3 wilderness trips including an excursion bridging the break between 3-week sessions. Our 10-day campers go on a three-day canoe trip to one of our remote campsites on the Chewonki Neck peninsula.
