Yesterday we welcomed Wood Sorrel and Wintergreen back to camp from their overnight canoe adventure on the lake just West of Fourth Debsconeag Lake, Nahmakanta Lake. It was a beautiful clear evening, the stars were shining, and many returned with stories of watching Mars rise. We also welcomed back Clintonia and Trout Lily from their adventures at Chewonki’s Big Eddy Campground. They both camped on the shores of the Penobscot River, enjoyed an evening Outreach presentation on the Bears of North America, and enjoyed cooking over the fire. Clintonia spent their day hiking on trails in Baxter State Park. Trout Lily spent their time at Big Eddy learning to read the river and paddle white water kayaks down the river. Corydalis ventured onto the trails from camp heading to discover the rest of the Debsconeag chain lakes. They made their way up to Sixth, Seventh, and Eigth Debsconeag Lakes. We were excited to have our dining hall once again filled with their voices and excitment, sharing songs, delicious meals, and stories from the trail. Today is an all camp activity day. The morning activity included “dress up your counselor.” Counselors were blindfolded and the girls chose the silliest costumes from the costume closet. Once in their new outfits, the leaders were put to the challenge to set up a tent, silently, with some verbal cues from their campers. It was quite a scene. Keep posted to our flickr photos as we hope to get some images up soon. The girls are currently in the middle of our afternoon activity “blueberry bake off.” Each yurt group has been put to the challenge of coming up with a delicious blueberry baked good. I look forward to seeing the creations to come. Tonight is our last campfire for our Ten-Day campers. I have heard already that they have a handful of creative skits they are excited to share with our community. Tomorrow morning the Ten-Day head out to Wiscasset. The arrival time and pick up time is 2pm. For the rest of the camp community, tomorrow is another exciting day of regularly scheduled camp activities.
