Our Northstars organized and led the end of session campfire tonight. Each yurt presented a song or skit from their trip this session. We heard a new variation of Lyle Lovett’s song If I had a boat which was converted to “If I had a canoe” and instead of “a pony on a boat”, it was rewritten to include ” a Moose in a canoe”. Another yurt surprised their leaders by performing a song written specifically for them. Like so many events at Chewonki appropriate gear is important, and in this case COSTUMES and PFD’s were prevalent. Campfires are fun as staff and campers get together to perform and reminisce. Part of our tradition at Chewonki is to have campers first carve and then allow them to personalize canoe paddles. It is fun the colorful designs that appear on the paddles. we look forward to seeing them on 4th Debsconeag lake and out on canoe trips. Parents can expect to have campers bring paddles home with them, so remember to save some room in the car!
