Flair Day!
July 23, 2009
Today was Flair Day! As the day progressed the costumes got more and more elaborate. We started the morning off with “Polar Flair” (in place of Polar Bears). The jumps off the dock into the water were pretty fancy and fun. Activities this morning included woodworking (making Adirondack chairs), paddle making, nature games, and canoeing. The girls completed the first chair yesterday and are now working on the second. Many girls are getting close to finishing their paddles and hoping to have them varnished and ready to go for their trips.
Tonight’s candlelight flair dinner was a delicious bacon quiche (veggi quiche option available as well), rainbow swiss chard and kale from our friend Jason (the Organic farmer in Greenville), with homemade tomato soup. I had one young camper say “I can officially say I absolutely love the food here.”
Tomorrow Corydalis, Clintonia, and Trout Lily head off on their first three-day trip. We look forward to a fun filled activity and trip prep day with just Wintergreen and Woodsorrel in camp. Wintergreen and Woodsorrel will take off on Saturday for their overnight camping trip.
Today was the Maine AT hiking group’s first re-supply of food and goods from our base camp in Wiscasset. We are hoping to hear an update soon. We will keep you posted.
