Woodsorrel is off canoeing and camping on Nahmakanta Lake for 3 daysThey left this morning. Trillium leaves Monday for 2 days of local hiking. Clintonia is hiking in Baxter State Park. CoryDalis walked out of camp on Saturday and will walk back in on Tuesday. They are exploring part of the Appalachian Trail as well as our own Debsconeag Back Country trail system. Trout Lilly is spending a week on the St Croix River. They are keeping a close eye on the water levels and enjoying great Scenery. Turtles, Eagles, and many birds. Leadership Training is also on the St Croix, although a different itinerary. This group will not return to camp until the end of the first session. After their river trip, they immediately get a resupply and trader their PFD’s for Back packs, they are off to Baxter and plan to hike Mt Katahdin via the Knife’s Edge Trail. After this, they return to the Debsconeag Region for some local hiking. Two days in camp and they head out to Big Eddy for 4 days of white water kayaking. The focus for them first session is on tripping skills. Second session they will focus on pedagogy, teaching skills and do a service learning project. Our Allagash trippers are still paddling on the lakes. They have asked for Sparklers to be included in their resupply on July 4th. Penobscott White Water have had time to practice their wet exits and paddling strokes. They are having fun at Big Eddy. All groups are glad the rain has given way to sunny and windy. We have had some Thunder storms in the afternoon and at night. In those situations, all of our trippers are put into “Lightning Drill” in which they must stay in protected areas. July 4th we are looking for a Waterfront Carnival and Barbeque. As to today, Happy Canada Day. Look forward to more pictures to come.
