Our Leadership Training program, aka the North Stars returned from a 10 day trip today. They paddled themselves home through the 4 of the 8 Debsconeag Lakes which include some challenging portages. The group had a fantastic time. Corydalis also portaged and paddled through the Debsconeag Chain and arrived home safely tonight. Event though we are only in our 4th year of summer camp. there are traditions that are part of Chewonki Camp for Girls. One of which is a bead ceremony. Ask a camper about the bead on her neck or wrist and how she earned it. We have one more trip to return to camp and that is our Penobscot White Water Kayakers who are due in Sunday afternoon. Sunday night and Monday are times of celebration. We will take time to recognize campers for experiencing the wilderness with us this summer. Some will come home with patches they have earned for activities they participated in with vigor or trips they have taken. Some will have learned about the birds and earned a pair of binoculars to bring home with them. Sunday includes a campfire and silly skits and songs from each Yurt Group while Monday is a time of appreciation and recognition and reflection. All traditions rooted in camp.
