Our Camp Program:
3-week campers at Chewonki experience a wide variety of stimulating and enjoyable in-camp activities complimented by wilderness trip adventures suited to their age. Girls may choose their own program from variety of options including nature study, camp craft, canoeing kayaking, sailing, art, pottery, swimming, tennis, field sports, archery, farm and gardening, woodworking, renewable energy workshops and photography. We place a special emphasis on natural history and ecology, as well as wilderness skills, canoeing, hiking and sailing.
Special all-camp activities like campfires, carnivals, scavenger hunts, polar bear dips, stargazing and group games help round out the summer program. Each camp session is comprised of approximately 40 girls divided into cabin groups of 8 to 10 campers.
Our cabins are organized into age groups called Puffins, Owls, Herons and Ospreys. Girls are assigned to cabins based on their age and grade, with 7-10 campers and 2 or more counselors. Cabin groups share some activities and eat together family-style in our dining hall. Cabin groups take overnight and wilderness trips together, and form tight-knit groups. Chewonki welcomes a wide cross-section of young people from all over the world, and we place a strong emphasis on teamwork, and building a welcoming, diverse community.
