Yurt Leaders Lilly Betke-Brunswick and Elizabeth Kimberly took their Trillium yurt on a new trip for Chewonki Camp for Girls. The girls went to visit the source of our food, Farmer Jason Hartman at Green Ledges Farm. Jason is a farmer and an educator and part of everyone of our meals. The girls met Jason and his family; Jason is the 5th generation of his family to be a farmer. The girls spent time with Jason learning about how he grows his garlic, snap peas, snow peas, lettuce, beet greens, swiss chard and carrots. They helped him out by weeding carrots and corn. I heard many tales at dinner about the “devilish” carrot weeds. IMPOSTERS!! Today our Clintonia group heads to Thoreau Island-at the base of Bear Mountain. Corydalis heads to Pine Stream, the North Stars Leadership Training program camp on White Horse Island. Today Chris delVecchio and I stopped by to see the Maine AT group and bring them some fresh fruit, food and supplies. The group LOVED their bananas and fruit almost as much as they enjoyed getting mail and messages from friends and family. Additionally the fresh clothes sparked up their trip. They are off to Namahkanta tomorrow, which is right in our back yard. This week 4th Debsconeag is quiet as only 1 yurt group is in camp at the moment. We wish safe adventures to all of our groups traveling.
