A Day in the Life
Every day at camp is unique, whether you are having fun at Chewonki’s Debsconeag Lake Wilderness Camp for 10 days or spending three weeks canoeing the waters of the North Woods. Weather, terrain, group goals, participants’ abilities, leaders’ special interests: all shape the rhythm of our days. The schedules below will give you a sense of how the days unfold in our Adventure Camp and the longer wilderness expeditions.
10-Day Adventure Camp:
6:30 am – Optional Polar Bear Dip
7:00 am – Bell – Wake Up
7:30 am – Breakfast
8:00 am – Morning Meeting / Chores – Bird of the Day, Update on Wilderness Trips
9:00 am – Activity
10:30 am – Activity
12:30 pm – Lunch
1:30 pm – Rest Hour
2:30 pm – Activity Block
4:00 pm – General Swim
6:00 pm – Dinner
7:15 pm – An Evening Activity which might be a campfire with music, skits and storytelling, or blueberry bake-off, or group games & activities.
9:00 pm – Lights Out
All-Girls Wilderness Trips:
Dawn: Up and at ‘em; start the campfire, prepare and enjoy breakfast; review plan for the day; choose leader of the day; break camp; depart on the day’s adventure
Morning: Hike or paddle
Lunch: Find a good spot to enjoy a picnic
Rest hour: sleep, write, read, paint, draw, music, natural history lesson
Afternoon: Hike or paddle
Evening: Choose a campsite; set up camp; start campfire; cook and enjoy dinner; chores; stories, music, cards, reading, skits, conversation, reading by the fire.
