A note from Susan Adams, Chewonki’s Big Eddy Campground Manager – Dear genell:
Happy 4th! I hope you saw a little sun. We saw some blue sky and the night before , a little moon, which was almost as exciting.
Penobscot Whitewater session 2 update.
3 of the participants now have some semblance of a roll. Wow! They have all paddled horse race and little a. They may postpone heading to Seboomook till the flows subside just a little. Friday night they had a little social gathering with the Camp Winaukee group that was here for a Chewonki Whitewater clinic. They enjoyed that I heard. Yesterday on the 4th , they took a break from paddling and hiked up to blueberry ledges. I also heard they started off the morning with fireworks,at least the sounds of fireworks. They then came over to river right for dinner with Mark and I and our 2 friends from Millinocket. We did Wood-fired pizzas and handcranked strawberry ice cream. the girls put together their own pizzas. Toppings ranged from the basic red sauce, cheese and pepperoni to alfredo sauce, chicken , fresh spinach form the Big eddy Garden and pineapple with black olives ! Shapes were unique and all turned out to be delicious. Wow these girls can eat! They took turns on a very old ice cream maker from mark’s grandparents . They cranked for about 30 minutes, these girls are getting very strong. They produced a delicious strawberry ice cream(strawberries provided by our local ranger Steve) and the ice cream was served with chocolate lavender sauce with whipped cream and red white and blue sprinkles!. they then headed back to camp with an early evening in mind.
