WOODPECKERS
Yesterday while running in the woods the sound of a woodpecker stopped me. I looked up, found the bird, fairly large Downy. He pecked a bit and then flew. I realize I have not really seen them in flight; I have only seen them hop from tree to tree. Watching as the wings opened, I saw the stuttered flight. Up and down and up and down. Returning to the trail today, I looked and listened yet did not find him again.
There are many sites of spring, birds among them. In Connecticut our daffodils have bloomed and now the tulips and forsythia are taking charge. Right behind them, the azaleas. We have plants in bloom, while at 4th Debsconeag the lake has not yet melted. A crew from Chewonki was slated to go up today to put in the docks, only to learn the roads are still snow covered and the lake has not melted. The docks will have to wait until next weekend.
I am excited to think that in 6 weeks we will be there for pre camp staff training. I am hopeful to see more woodpeckers in flight.
